Mouliné yarns are made by twisting together fibers of different colors. The result is a multi-color yarn that, when woven into a finished fabric, has a depth and subtle heathering not found in typical fabrics.

We worked with the famous Portuguese mill Somelos Tecidos to weave these heavy, yet incredibly soft flannels. The designs in our Mouliné Flannel collection are subdued and elegant—you won’t be mistaken for a lumberjack in these.

The Sonoma is solid navy at a distance, but a closer look reveals a distinctive mixture of light blue and navy due to the mouliné yarns.

This shirt is so comfortable and soft I could sleep in it! This is the perfect fall and winter shirt that always looks great and wrinkle free!

Bob L. (Truckee, CA)

One of my favorites, very soft and has an interesting texture. Kind of like a more refined version of flannel.

David A. (Chicago, IL)

Soft, very comfortable fabric. Warm in cooler weather.

Byron P. (New York, NY)

Soft and pretty wrinkle-resistant -- if I hang it up when slightly damp, it needs no ironing. Gorgeously blue under natural light.

Cameron M. (Longmont, CO)

I have the Columbia and the Sonoma Mouliné and wear them all the time in the winter. It might be because I wear them the most, but I get tons of complements in these shirts. These are my favorite ratio shirts. They are starting to show some very small pilling after two seasons of wear.

How it's Made

Fabric Mill

Somelos was founded in Portugal in 1958, first making yarns and later adding cotton fabric production to its repertoire. The family-run business has become the benchmark for yarn-dyed men's dress shirting in the global market, and weaves fabric for many of the top brands and designers in menswear.

We’re proud to make this shirt in a facility in North Carolina that’s been making shirts continuously for nearly 60 years with a history of quality and craftsmanship. The factory is a union shop that employs several hundred skilled operators, who earn a living wage. Every shirt made by Ratio includes over sixty operations performed by a dedicated team of made-to-measure specialists.
